Poor old Matt Smith. The self confessed clumsy man has just finished filming the final scenes for this year’s series of Doctor Who when he goes and injures himself whilst celebrating!

The unlucky fella tripped up in his flat in Cardiff (where he lives while filming Doctor Who each year) and received a nasty bang on the cranium which left him needing a few stitches.

Luckily Matt was fine and is now released from hospital and on the speedy road to recovery but according to sources the Beeb would have been very upset if he had sustained the injury before completing his filming schedule:

“Luckily they had just finished shooting scenes – if not his bosses would have been fuming because it didn’t look too pretty.”

This does seem a tad harsh considering that Tom Baker broke his collarbone during the filming of The Sontaran Experiment (not to mention winding up a dog and getting a bite on the lip before recording The Pirate PlanetEd) and caused much more disruption but as ever, take press comments with a pinch of salt.

Smith himself has told of how he regularly breaks props on set, including his sonic screwdriver, all the time.

Who knows, when the next Christmas special comes out this year, maybe you’ll be able to spot the scar if you’ve got BBC One HD!
